On a Sculpture by Louise Nevelson
by Antonio Rivera

Louise Nevelson, Rain Garden II, painted wood assemblage, Gihon Foundation

Black boxes,
rooms full of armour,
battlements for the mind.

Recesses for Persephone
after she became Queen of
Hades.

From which her hand emerges
offering a bangle in the air.

It is like suddenly coming on a
flower in dead winter.
An offering that is almost erotic
enough to give up life for.

[This poem is based on a sculpture by Louise Nevelson, at the North Carolina Museum of Art. We tried, but couldn't find it either on the internet or on the floor. It's comfortably in storage at the moment. We hope.]
