The artsRambler Spouts
Like toddlers discovering the flat side of their feet, we're taking our second shakey step. Yes, we're back.
We've a few new features, along with the usual insightful articles on the front page. The promised Calendar is now "Artist Opportunities, Events, Classifieds." This is updated continually as our ever vigialnt seekers comb the cyber waves and print media for tasty intriguing bits for artists: opportunites to show, jobs, merchandise, studio spaces, on-going exhibitions and announcements.
Collectors, we ask you to spend time in the Gallery Section. New artists will be added throughout the month. You will notice that our commission policy is on the gallery page for all to read. This is a bit like walking into Belks and asking for their mark-up sheets. It's just not done. So why do we do it, I hear you all cooperatively ask. When an artist is accepted by a gallery, the gallerist must house, insure, light and promote the work. They must pay staff and entertain customers. For this, they rightly ask for anywhere from 40 to 70% of the sales price. The artist must find some sort of formula that reflects not only the gallery's take, but the time put into the work, the matierals and the overhead. It doesn't end there, however. All of this is tempered by the famous "what the market will allow" law, which is usually substantially less the carefully constructed formula's product. In the end the artist is fortunate to be making a minimum wage. An art buyer may decide to be "savvy" and go straight to the source, the artist, to buy a piece. The artist is not only faced the ethical dilemma of cheating the gallery who has worked so hard on her behalf, but realizes that by lowering the price, she's shooting her own foot. There are consequences. Besides facing the gallerist's wrath, she will have undercut her own worth and market.
So we decided to start offering space to a few good artists. If you eventually buy a piece from them because you were introdfuced to their work here, they have promised us 10% of the sales price. This will keep us going, keep them going, and make you, the art patron very gratified. In fact, we'll all be gratified. So visit the gallery, the artists' websites, buy art.We are considering adding a gallery for portraitists. Any feedback about this?-Speaking of feedback, Artsramble only has the intellectual juice you provide it.
So… Sign your name Joe Shmo or just be anonymous. But talk back. Either register and ost or write directly to artsrambler@artsramble.com. Artsramble is an experiment that may or may not be on going. This depends only partly on us. Certainly the past decade has taught everyone–Democrat or Republican or whatever–we deserve what we get. To borrow a very corny phrase from the 50's, OK, peanut gallery. Your turn.

Whew! After a weekend of squashing bugs and brainstorming how to make a better blog experience, the artsrambler and I have made some good headway.
First, I figured out why there was issues with posting on Internet Explorer on the PC, which essentially was a CSS bug that I corrected. Next, a plug-in “EditorMonkey” kept users from posting properly in Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer is by far the most common browser, but if web developers had their way, Firefox would be the order of the day. In any case, I fixed the CSS bug and took out the EditorMonkey. I will look for a better plug-in that doesn’t cause issues with IE and allows people enhanced editing capabilities.
We also added an e-newsletter which you can sign up for on the top right on the screen. Enter in your email address and we’ll send you updates once a month to let you know when new articles have been posted. You can always unsubscribe, so no worries there.
We hope to inspire your comments as your work inspires us. By the way Melinda, as a type guy, I really love “obsession”. Great stuff :-) .
Please email artsrambler@artsramble.com if you run into any technical questions and I’ll do my best to get right on it.
